My Favorite Websites and Apps for Saving Money: Checkout 51 (Day 4)

Welcome to my first series ever–My Favorite Websites and Apps for Saving Money. In this series, I’m detailing websites and apps that I use to save money.   A few of these are actually legitimate ways to EARN money!  These are all websites and apps that YOU could easily start NOW in order to save money or even EARN money!  Every little bit adds up!

Thank you for joining me, and remember that you can ask me any questions in the comments and I’ll answer them to the best of my ability.  Let’s continue with Day 4!!

App #1:  Checkout51

What is Checkout51 and how does it work?

First of all, I hesitated as categorizing Checkout 51 as just an app.  In reality, you can also use this service on the online website without using the actual app.  However, you would lose some coupon deals that require you to scan bar codes.  I think it is important to note that you can use most of Checkout51 exclusively online, even if you don’t have a smartphone or tablet, so don’t count it out if you only have access to a computer.

Checkout51 is an app, available on iOS and Android devices, that offers digital coupons.  All you have to do is choose the coupon offers you like, go buy them at ANY store, and then submit a picture of your receipt–either through the mobile app or through the website.  The offers do change every Thursday morning, so the coupon offer list is only available for one week.  (The more popular name-brand offers are sometimes limited in number and are used quickly–so I just check the app right before I go to the store.)

My favorite part of Checkout51 is that it offers a produce coupon EVERY week.  Did you hear me??  A PRODUCE COUPON!!  There will be a list of 5 produce items to choose from each week (bananas, bell peppers, etc.), and you select the one you want from those options.  Produce coupons are so rare unless they are attached to a specific brand, like Driscoll, so it is nice to be guaranteed $0.25 off every week on ANY produce brand from ANY store.  It really adds up if you redeem a produce coupon every week!

My second favorite part of Checkout51 is that it does not matter where you purchase the items as long as they match the coupon offer.  As long as you have a valid store receipt, it does not matter if it was from the dollar store or a gas station or a drug store.  (All the other coupon apps I use have specific coupon offers available at select stores only.  Discount stores like Aldi are not included. 🙁 )

How do you receive the money you’ve saved?

I absolutely LOVE that Checkout51 sends you an actual check with all the money you have saved.  You do have to reach a minimum of $20 before they will send you a check, but I think it is worth it since they give you actual cash and don’t make you trade in your savings for gift cards or jump through other hoops just to get your savings back.  (Again, other coupon apps have more slightly more involved ways of getting you your money back.)

Is it worth it to use Checkout51??

Uhh, yeah!!  You get coupons for things that you would never get coupons for otherwise–like produce and sometimes even milk!  You can double up on coupons by using a paper coupon at the store, and then submit your receipt to Checkout51 for a digital coupon for the SAME ITEM.  (I have gotten many items FREE by combining paper coupons with the Checkout51 coupon offer.)

For all you moms, Checkout51 usually offers at least one diaper coupon each week.  Pampers, Huggies, and Luvs are the usual brands.  If you combine a $2 paper coupon with a $2 Checkout51 coupon, you just easily saved $4 on 1 pack of diapers!!  That’s worth it, ladies!!

I think Checkout51 is a no-brainer, especially since it’s as simple as taking a picture of your receipt.

Let me know if you join Checkout51!  I’ve had such a great experience with Checkout51 and I’m sure you will too!!

Be sure to check back on Wednesday (11/23) to hear about the next money-saving app, Ibotta!!
